Before you let yourself enjoy one of the 14 saunas available in Atlantis Wellness, familiarise yourself with some key rules to ensure you have a pleasant and genuine sauna experience.

1 Preparation

Enter a sauna only when you are rested, since a sudden transition from everyday stressful situations to a calming environment of a sauna may be too strenuous for the body. It is important to know you should enjoy a sauna only if you are feeling well. At least half an hour before entering a sauna, prepare everything you need and make sure your body and mind are calm. Before and after taking a sauna do not drink any alcohol beverages – water or herbal tea is a far better idea. It is also best not to eat, since it is not recommended to enter a sauna with a full stomach.

2 Personal Hygiene

Before entering a sauna, remove all the make-up and all metal objects, such as jewellery, glasses, etc. Then enter a shower and put soap on your body thoroughly and wash it off with warm water, since it is not recommended to enter a sauna with cold feet. After the shower, thoroughly dry off your body, since only a dry body perspires effectively.

3 Starting Slowly

Enter the sauna nude and without any footwear (you may cover your body with a towel, which you must use to cover the surface on which you want to sit). Entering a sauna must be quick to ensure as little warmth is lost as possible for all visitors to have an optimal sauna experience. During the first visit of the sauna, be sure to exit it no later than 10 minutes after entering, and be sure to not sit on the highest bench – the most suitable option is the middle bench. When you finish your first sauna session, quickly exit the sauna and always take the towel with you. Then shower and let your body cool off. When showering, be sure to use lukewarm and not ice cold water, since gradual cooling off is recommended.

4 Moderate Continuation

The second sauna session of your visit should last between 10 and 15 minutes. If you feel the sauna is too hot, do not open the sauna’s door, but rather sit or lay down on the lowest bench. Please be aware that a sauna should be regarded as an oasis of peace for all visitors, so it is imperative to follow the rules of good etiquette. After you finish your second session, do not rush under a cold shower, but instead cool off for a minute or two outside the sauna. If you decide to cool off with a shower with stronger water jet, be sure to start from the feet up.

5 Cool Off After Your Sauna Experience

The last session of your sauna visit should last approximately 10 minutes. After it, be sure to shower with cold water and then lay down on a deckchair and rest until you stop perspiring and your body cools off completely. At that moment, exit the sauna.

6 Do Not Forget to Stay Hydrated

The main element of the sauna experience that soothingly affects the body and well-being is accelerated perspiration, but this may result in dehydration of the body due to a large amount of water leaving the body. That’s why it is mandatory to drink water or a mild herbal tea before, during and after taking a sauna.
